Located on the southwestern peninsula of Castia, Misk is also known as the Grey City due to the color of miskstone from which the city was originally constructed during the middle period of the Iskan Age.
During the Iskan Age, Misk was a summer home for the Iskan prince-regent of the West and modelled on the ancient cities of the Eastern coast. Until the end of the Iskan Age, Misk flourished as a cosmopolitan economic and cultural hub, but struggled to recover its glory after it was sacked, and half-razed during the War of Independence.
After the War and into the Warring Kingdoms period, Misk fell into a state of decay with a rapidly dwindling population and incresingly dire economic and infrastructural situation. Towards the latter portion of the Warring Kingdoms period, displaced Iskan settlers, farmers, prisoners of war, and retired soldiers began to resettle the area, working to rebuild the city from the rubble of war. However, by this point, most miskstone reserves had been depleted and as such, the reconstructed areas in the city are clearly defined by their mismatched materials.
While it has never returned to its status during the Iskan Age, Misk has remained an economically stable, primarily industrial coastal city since the beginning of the First Allied Kingdoms Era, though with a disproportionate presence of organized crime and governmental corruption as compared to other major Castian cities. Despite a generally unfavorable public opinion towards the city itself, the surrounding areas are well-regarded including Misk's suburban neighborhoods, the Misk Woods, and the bayside towns to its immediate southeast.
